Misiones / Itaipu
Paraguay’s Misiones area is home to the Itaipu Dam, one of the world’s largest hydroelectric facilities. Located on the Paraná River bordering Brazil, it is considered one of the seven engineering wonders of the modern world. By night enjoy a light show illuminating Itaipu’s spillways, and by day explore the nearby Museum of the Guarani Land with exhibits on indigenous culture. Tatí Yupí Wildlife Refuge and Monday’s Falls offer hiking trails and abundant birdlife, and a day trip to the Ruins of Trinidad provides insight into early eighteenth-century Jesuit influence in Paraguay. With so much to see, Misiones is a diverse adventure destination for all.
