Bogota
Perched in the foothills of the Andes at an elevation of 8,660 feet, Bogotá is Colombia’s thriving economic hub and capital. The energy of the city is fueled by hundreds of eclectic restaurants, spirited nightlife, and plenty of Colombian coffee. Take a stroll through the historic art deco buildings of the La Candelaria neighborhood, treat yourself to a fresh empanada, and visit the jaw-dropping Museo del Oro. Climbing the steps to the shrine at the top of sacred Monserrate is a Bogotá rite of passage (although we wouldn’t blame you for taking the funicular). Afterward, try your hand at game of Tejo— the national sport of Colombia that involves gunpowder and requires participants to be drinking beer!
